Faxing may seem obsolete technology but many businesses still use it for their business communications. You don’t have to buy a fax machine, or fax modem. Free online fax services let you send faxes and receive them in your email.

These free fax services may not offer all the features you need. Be sure to carefully consider the pros and cons of each one before you make a decision.

What We Like

FaxZero makes it easy to send a free fax anywhere in the United States, Canada, and many other countries. Upload a file or PDF file. Or enter the text to fax. The fax-receiving function is not available.

The free service displays an ad on your cover page. There are a maximum of 3 pages per fax. You can also receive up to 5 free faxes per calendar day. For $2.09, you can send up to 25 pages of faxes with priority delivery. No advertising is allowed on the cover page. The Better Business Bureau is accredited to this service.

GotFreeFax offers no ads on the cover page. GotFreeFax won’t allow ads to be placed on its free fax cover pages. You can also add no GotFreeFax branding directly to your fax. Faxes can be sent online from anywhere in the U.S. FaxZero does not have fax-receiving capability.

Maximum of three pages per fax, with up to two free faxes each day. GotFreeFax offers a way to fax additional pages. It allows you to send up to 10 pages per fax for just 98 cents. 20 pages are $1.98 and 30 for $2.98. This premium pay-per fax service offers priority delivery and encrypted connection.

FaxBetterFree gives you a dedicated, toll-free number to receive up to 50 pages each month. Each time you receive an incoming fax, you’ll be notified via email. FaxBetterFree has up to 1000 pages stored on its website so that you can access your online faxes.

This free fax number cannot be used to send faxes. Also, the fax service can only be used for a 30-day period. When the free version is installed, you consent to receiving browser ads.

FaxBetter Premium accounts are available for $5.95 per monthly for 500 pages, plus two cents per each page thereafter. This plan is required upfront for two year. This plan also offers unlimited fax storage, searchable notifications and no advertising.

eFax 14-Day Free Trial

What We Like

  • This is a good choice for small volumes.
  • You can choose your own fax numbers.

  • Subscriptions are costly.
  • $10 setup fee for a paid Tier.

You can get a free fax number with the eFax Free Trial. This number is available for both incoming and outgoing faxes. You can send and get faxes via your email program, or log into an online portal to fax (the portal even allows you to sign faxes). The trial allows you to send and receive up 150 documents.

After your trial period expires, sign up to the Plus plan ($14.13/month, billed annually) or the Pro plan ($16.63/month, billed annually) and you will have the ability to send and receive faxes via your mobile device using the eFax App. You can also access all of your faxes through your online portal.

You can modify the area code for your Fax Number and send or receive up to 150 pages (Plus) and 200 pages (Pro) each month when you sign up for either a Pro or Plus Plan. For either plan, there is a $10 setup charge.

PamFax membership is free and users who sign up for the service get three free pages. PamFax works on all platforms: Windows, MacOS, iPhone and Android.

Once you have exhausted your three free pages of fax, you can choose between the PamFax online service (10c/page), the Basic plan ($4.37/month) and 10c/page or the Professional plan ($6.58/month/7c/page).

Each plan, Basic or Professional, includes a personal fax number that allows you to send multiple documents through one fax. Skype integration is available through this fax service. The Professional plan offers support for Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive.

MyFax 14 Day Free Trial

What We Like

  • Great coverage abroad.
  • For people who have moderate-to-heavy needs for faxes, a subscription plan is a good option.

What We Do Not Like

  • If you fail to cancel your free trial, you will be charged.

MyFax is free to use and allows you to receive faxes from more than 40 countries. It supports more file types than other fax services such as Word Excel PowerPoint PowerPoint and image files. MyFax can be used with iPhones as well as other smartphones.

MyFax accounts start at $10 per month after the free trial. The Terms and Conditions of MyFax are very detailed. Make sure to go through them before signing up.

Internet Fax in Microsoft Office

What We Do Not Like

  • It requires a modem, phone line and internet access.

Microsoft Office offers a built-in capability to send faxes using Outlook, Word Excel Excel or PowerPoint. You must install the Windows Fax driver (or Fax Services) on your sending computer in order to use this feature.

Microsoft Office can be used to send faxes. It is a simple and cost-effective alternative to an external service.
